They are going to be oculars, I have a bit more shaping to do before I do the pierce relief. I do most of the hammer work into a wooden stump, shaping it on steel stakes and on my anvils. For the very last bit of shaping I use led as a backing to the steel and repousse into the steel with the material cold. If the steel gets too stiff I'll anneal it in my forge, however don't always need to if I used the forge at all in the beginning of the shaping process. I am replacing all of my led with pitch within the week actually. We'll see how that helps. Looking forward to working with none toxic materials.
Well I've never used pitch up to this point, so I'm excited to see what the differences will be. I just finished setting up everything yesterday, going to try it today
I have to ask, what do you use to support the piece when you work the outside? Anything? If nothing, what do you hold it with?
